2019 AMMC Scholarships

The scholarship application process for the American Museum Membership Conference has now closed. Applications for the 2020 conference will be opened with registration.

The purpose of these scholarships is to provide a comprehensive development opportunity to a museum professional working in the area of membership, who, due to financial constraints, would otherwise be unable to attend the American Museum Membership Conference.

Applications will be accepted through November 30, 2018. Applications will be reviewed by the AMMC Scholarship Committee and announcement of the recipient will be made on January 22, 2019. Applicants not awarded a scholarship will be allowed to register at the early bird rate through January 31, 2019.

The 2019 American Museum Membership Conference will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Celebrated for its extraordinary educational content explicitly dedicated to best practices in museum membership, the conference has a history of 34 years of stellar presentations by museum professionals. From Alabama to Wyoming and Canada, the conference has planned its bi-annual schedule to cross the country, assuring the conference can speak to membership teams in each geographic area, and present on-site opportunities for attendees to observe a wide variety of museums in action.

Presentations throughout each conference cover intensives in membership management, the fundamentals of membership growth tools, the dynamics of relationship building for sustained and increased giving year after year – and – new trends in every area affecting programmatic strategy. (See the 2017 conference schedule here.) Speakers include museum membership teams actively practicing your craft, museum directors, and high profile leaders from a variety of disciplines defining new ways to engage members and assure long term participation with your programs. At no other conference can you learn more about museum membership through multiple seminars each day all in one destination, and build long lasting friendships to help you continually throughout the year as you apply what you have learned.

We welcome your interest in applying for a scholarship to this special learning opportunity for 2019. Scholarships are awarded to museum professionals working in the area of membership who, due to financial constraints, would otherwise be unable to attend the Conference.

Three scholarships will be awarded:

The Barbara Dougherty Membership Scholarship, named for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Managing Chief Membership Officer, who served in that role for 30 years, and who generously volunteered her time in managing the Conference’s scholarships for many years. This scholarship will be awarded to a qualifying membership professional with three or more years of membership experience.

The Roanne Katcher Membership Scholarship, who, as former Membership Manager of the High Museum, served tirelessly as the AMMC’s managing coordinator for many years. This scholarship will be awarded to a membership professional with less than three years of membership experience.

The AMMC Board Scholarship will be awarded to a museum membership professional from a small museum or zoo, classified as having an overall budget of $2 million or less.
